How Therapy Helped Me Find My Light Again
personal
The past three years have been full of struggles. It felt like one obstacle after another, each one feeling more intimidating and overwhelming than the last. Just when I thought I'd caught my breath, a new problem would come crashing down. This constant state of struggle started to chip away at my optimism. I would be really scared to even enter a new year. Despite having a great support system, I kept everything inside me. I would not share the feeling because it felt like burdening others with my negativity. Therapy constantly crossed my mind, but something held me back. What if it didn't work? What if it made things worse?
These questions were the ones that were constantly on my mind.
During my last semester, however, something shifted. The weight became too much to carry alone. I knew I couldn't keep going this way. So, with a deep breath, I reached out to my college counselor. Talking to them felt like a dam breaking, years of suppressed emotions finally finding release.
The counselor encouraged me to get professional help, and this time, the fear was no longer there. I found a psychologist who created a safe space to explore my anxieties and talk about the emotional baggage I'd been carrying. It wasn't a quick fix, but slowly, things started to
change.
Therapy helped me to manage stress and negative thoughts. I learned to appreciate the little joys, the everyday moments that brought a smile even on difficult days. It wasn't about ignoring problems but finding balance.
Today, I'm not the same person I was three years ago. Challenges still come, but I face them with resilience. I'm learning to embrace the future again, to welcome possibilities without the fear of what might go wrong.
Looking back, seeking help wasn't a sign of weakness, but of strength. It was finally choosing myself, choosing to break the cycle. If you're struggling, even a little, please know you're not alone. There is help available, and even the smallest steps can lead you to a brighter future.
You deserve the chance to find your light again.
