Mental Health Support Groups and Community Circles in Chennai

Therapy is one room with one person. A Community Circle is a room with people who already understand, which is a different kind of relief. Our Circles are free, facilitator-led support groups in Chennai and beyond, where people meet others carrying something similar — anxiety, grief, burnout, the loneliness of a new city, parenting a difficult season.

Nobody is made to speak. Many people attend two or three Circles before saying a word, and that counts as taking part. Circles run online, so you can join from Adyar or Ambattur without moving from your desk.

Community Circles for Chennai

Chennai is a city people come to as much as come from. Students arrive from across Tamil Nadu for colleges in Guindy, Tambaram, Kattankulathur and Taramani. Engineers move into shared flats along the OMR corridor at Sholinganallur, Perungudi and Navalur, three states away from anyone they know. Families in T. Nagar, Mylapore and Anna Nagar hold grief quietly because the house is full and there is nowhere private to put it. Our Circles are built for exactly that gap. Because they run online, a Velachery resident, a Besant Nagar retiree and a Porur night-shift worker sit in the same group without one of them crossing the city at 8:00 PM. And for anyone who wants to move from a group to one-to-one work, our T. Nagar centre near Panagal Park is a short step away, with the same organisation behind both.

What a Community Circle looks like

Each Circle is a scheduled online group of roughly eight to fifteen people, led by a trained facilitator from our clinical team. It is not a lecture and it is not group therapy. The facilitator opens with a theme, keeps the ground rules, makes sure no one person takes the hour, and closes properly so nobody leaves mid-feeling.

Ground rules are simple and enforced: what is said in the Circle stays in the Circle, no advice unless it is asked for, no fixing, no cross-talk. You can keep your camera off. You can use a first name only. You can attend once or every week.

Circles are grouped by theme and refreshed through the year, covering anxiety and stress, grief and loss, burnout and work pressure, student and exam pressure, parenting, relationships, and men's and women's mental health.

They are free. That is deliberate — cost should not decide whether someone in Chennai gets support this week. If a Circle surfaces something that needs individual attention, the facilitator will say so and you can move to one-to-one therapy online or at T. Nagar, at your own pace.

Who support groups in Chennai are for

Peer support helps when you are carrying something and would rather not carry it alone. These free mental health support groups are for people in Chennai and beyond, including those dealing with:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Grief and loss
  • Burnout and work pressure
  • The loneliness of a new city, including students who moved to Chennai for college
  • Parenting a difficult season
  • Student and exam pressure
  • Relationships, and men's and women's mental health

How to join a support group in Chennai

You can join a Circle without any commitment and without having to speak.

  • Find a Circle: see all Community Circles and pick the next one open to Chennai, or check your mental health score if you are unsure which theme fits. Call +91-96770-29999 between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM if you would rather someone help you choose.
  • Join free online: no payment and no camera required, a first name is fine, and you can attend once or every week.
  • Move to one-to-one if you need it: if a Circle surfaces something that needs individual attention, the facilitator will say so, and you can start one-to-one therapy in Chennai online or at T. Nagar, at your own pace.

Frequently asked questions

Are Community Circles held in person in Chennai?

Circles run online so that people across Chennai — OMR, Tambaram, Anna Nagar, Adyar — can attend without an evening commute. One-to-one therapy is available in person at our T. Nagar centre.

Are the Circles really free, and are they run by qualified people?

Yes, free, with no card required. Every Circle is led by a trained facilitator from our clinical team, not by volunteers.

I am a student who moved to Chennai for college and I do not know anyone. Is this for me?

Very much so. Students relocating to Chennai for colleges around Guindy, Taramani, Tambaram and Kattankulathur are among the most common attendees, and our student and young-adult Circles exist for this.

You do not have to start with therapy. Start with a room.

See the next Community Circle open to Chennai and join free — no payment, no camera required — or call +91-96770-29999 between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM if you would rather someone help you pick the right one.
