Know when to reach out
You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Most couples come in when something feels off but they cannot quite name it.
The same arguments keep coming back
You have had the same fight many times and nothing changes. The issue is not the argument - it is the underlying pattern driving it.
Emotional distance has crept in
Conversations have become surface-level. You are sharing a home but not a life. Affection and intimacy feel like a distant memory.
Communication breaks down fast
Every attempt to talk about something difficult ends in shutdown, silence or escalation. Nothing gets resolved.
Trust has been damaged
Whether through infidelity, dishonesty or emotional betrayal, the foundation feels shaky. You want to move forward but do not know how.
A major transition has strained things
New parenthood, job loss, relocation, grief. Big life changes pull couples apart even when both are coping individually.
You want to invest before things worsen
Things are not terrible, but you know they could be better. Therapy is not only for crisis - it is a tool for couples who want to stay strong.

FAQs
Things worth knowing before you book.
Couples therapy is a form of psychotherapy where both partners work with a trained therapist to improve their relationship. Unlike individual therapy, which focuses on one person's inner world, couples therapy treats the relationship itself as the client. The therapist stays neutral, helping both partners feel heard, understand each other's perspectives and work on the patterns causing friction. Sessions typically involve joint conversations, guided exercises and structured communication tools.
There is no such thing as too soon. Couples often wait years after problems begin before seeking help, by which point patterns are deeply entrenched. Common reasons to start include repeated unresolved conflict, growing emotional distance, recovering from a breach of trust, adjusting to a major life change like new parenthood or relocation, or simply wanting to invest in the relationship before things deteriorate. Pre-marital counselling is also a strong, proactive option for couples preparing to marry.
Yes, but it takes consistent, intentional effort from both partners. Rebuilding trust is not as simple as a single apology. Think of trust like a savings account: every kept promise, act of transparency and reliable behaviour is a deposit. Every betrayal or broken commitment is a withdrawal. In counselling, the process moves through clear stages: acknowledgement and validation, understanding the root cause, genuine apologies and restitution, creating new boundaries and gradually rebuilding positive connection. Many couples come out of this process with a stronger relationship than they had before.
Change can start with just one person. If your partner is not ready right now, individual counselling is a powerful first step. It gives you space to clarify your own needs, understand what is happening in the relationship and develop healthier communication habits. Relationships are systems. When one part of the system changes, the whole system feels it. Your personal growth can become the catalyst that opens the door for your partner to eventually join.
Research consistently shows that online therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person sessions. For many couples, online sessions are actually easier to commit to consistently, with no travel time, greater schedule flexibility and the comfort of a familiar environment. At TLHC, both options are available, and you can switch between them as your needs change.
There is no fixed number. It depends on the nature of your concerns, the goals you set together and how quickly you both progress. Some couples see meaningful shifts in eight to twelve sessions. Others work through deeper issues over a longer period. Your therapist will review progress with you regularly and will never push you to continue beyond what is genuinely useful.
Most sessions are attended by both partners together. Occasionally, your therapist may suggest individual check-ins to better understand each person's perspective privately. Any individual sessions always feed back into your joint goals, and your therapist maintains transparency throughout the process.
Not at all. Couples therapy is for any two people in a committed relationship, regardless of whether they are married, dating, in a live-in relationship, engaged or LGBTQ+. It is also for couples who are not in crisis. Many use it proactively to strengthen communication, navigate a life transition together or simply keep their relationship healthy over the long term.
